7. Research Proposal “Ads in social media”

I born in a generation which the information grow so fast and people started can not live without their phone, so am I. We get addicted to the social media world. It is a magic place that people can know everything within a few seconds, we can know more people personal life and it is more than a social platform. It can also be a business.

Instagram (IG) is one of the famous social media platforms nowadays, although people are not going to post anything on IG, they can reach out and explore others world by reading their post or some sharing. In these recent years, IG started a new function called “IG Story”, people can read others instant snap within 24 hours, it is really killing time and most of us do it while we are bored, we just read through the story and check it out to see any interesting things. Most of the company will also put ads on Instagram when people explore the IG, they can see the ads between the posts and the story. At first, some local shop or KOL will put the ads on IG to gain popularity and fame, but more and more famous brand started to put ads on IG too.

I really wanna know the effectiveness of the ads on IG, did anyone even buy anything through the ads or just because they see the ads on IG.

Stakeholders:
1. The brand / Shop owner /KOL
Everyone can add the ads on IG, but them may be the one who really in need of it. For the brand or shop owner or even KOL, if they want to sell or gain more fame/followers about them, it is really a good way for them. This study can hope all of them to know about is it worth to put ads on IG, if it does, how can they do to make better ads.

2. Instagram users
The users of Instagram spend the time on it and everyone may have an opinion on about the ads or anything on IG. This study can explore their feelings about the ads, and learn what ads they prefer and what they really want. Even though they are users now, they can start their business right away, it is a time for them to learn and explore the market on IG.

Methodology:

  1. Observation
    Most of the people have the IG account nowadays, people love doing it in their spare time and there is no way for people to hide the ads on IG, they can only choose to ignore it or take a look at it. So I may observe people while they using Instagram will they spend time on the ads or just ignore it and skip it.

    Some ads on IG is also allowed people to comments and “like”, I can also observe it by reading the numbers of “like” and comments so that to know about the effectiveness.

  2. Interview
    I may interview two types of people to get a wide reason of result about the effectiveness of ads in IG. I will interview the two main stakeholders : (1)Shop owner and (2)Instagram user. It can help me to know more about the ads effective on both side:

    A few examples of questions that I may ask in the interview:
    For the shop owner,
    1. Have you ever try to put ads on IG? Why/Why not?
    2. How many ads did you post?
    3. How many followers gain after you put ads?
    4. Is it true that the ads make your profit gain?

    For the Instagram user,
    1. How long have you joined Instagram?
    2. Have you even saw any ads on Instagram?
    3. How you do feel about it?
    4. How many shops’ IG account did you follow? Can you show me some?
    5. Have you ever try to buy anything just because you saw the ads on IG?

  3. Showcase
    I would love to make a video to showcase my research. Since I am making a topic on Instagram ads, it is good to present in a visual way full of photo or video. It is also a chance for me to improve my editing skills, it can help for my future career since I really wanna join the creative media industry. The data will be analyzed and the information of the interview will be narrated and show in the video.
