Someone may say the TV industry is dying because of the rise of Netflix. The rise of Netflix really affects fewer people watch TV. But is it a bad thing or good thing for the general public? In my opinion, it is definitely a good thing because Netflix has many advantages for the general public.

Netflix is a media service that offers online streaming of list of films and tv programs. The rise of Netflix changes the way of the public that uses media or the habit of watch programs. Also, Netflix has many advantages for the public to choose instead of TV:

The flexibility:

Netflix is so flexible that user can choose any plan they like and downgrade or upgrade at any time. The price depends on the plan that you choose and it is around USD7.99 to USD13.99 per month. It is a price that most of the people are acceptable. It is allowed sharing the account with your friends or family and watches different programmes on different screens at the same time. The first month is free that people can try to use for a month to see is it suitable for them and allow to cancel anytime.

Raising awareness of social issues:

Since the rise of Netflix, the content of the programme become the topic that people talk about in their daily life. Netflix produces many original programs like “13 Reasons Why” and “Dear White People”. “13 Reasons Why” is one of the successful examples that raising the awareness of teens social issues. The programme did help the general public to aware of teenage being bully or sexual assault in real life. It did have teenage suicide because they are facing these serious issues which affect their mental or physical health but no one could help and they are afraid to speak out. The programme that Netflix made give the public a chance to aware of the social issues and provide a platform for them to support them, encourage them to talk to someone. Here is an example that a famous singer which watched the programme and giving a message to the teenager:

Custom-made experience:

Everybody is different, so do their interest in watching the programme are different. Netflix makes people feel more personal on their Netflix experience. The home page of Netflix is based on the interest of the people. They will get the data to suggest what movie or programme are suitable for them. For example, “Which type of programme you watch recently”, “Browsing and scrolling behaviour”. It is very different from cable tv or even traditional tv. According to the twitter of Netflix 75% of the viewer, activity is based on Netflix’s suggestions, it means that these experience really works and make people get more into Netflix and spend more time on it. The user can feel it is a custom-made experience.

Nowadays, people can watch the programme on their phone anytime anywhere even it is Netflix or from the TV. But Netflix really gives the general public a different experience. Besides on the flexibility of the Netflix, it did help the society to aware of the social issue: teenage mental health, racial discrimination, human rights issues etc. It also provides a personal experience for each of the user. It shows that Netflix cares every user and care about society.
