Deliver apps Part 2

In this course, we have to discover a lot of other country’s culture, I know it is not an easy job but I am willing to try. I really love to eat, so I try something that I can use in my daily life which is about food. Actually, before this project, I have never use any deliver apps, I used to buy food by myself or make a phone call to order it. Since I never use it, it is all new to me and I am starting to know why people love using it.

According to the article Food delivery apps expanding rapidly in Korea, there is a Korean phrase which is “Delivery Nation” means people in Korea really love to use the delivery apps and become a culture. They also bring up a new trend of “eating alone”. In Korea, people love to use “Yogiyo”, “Shuttle”, “Uber Eats” and “Baedal Minjok”, these are all the delivery apps that people can not live without. There is plenty of choices for people to choose the restaurant and food. It is super convenient and the most important thing is you no need to leave your home and no need to do the dishes!

Ellis had said that “people must use personal experience to illustrate facets of cultural experience”

“concentrate on ways of producing meaningful, accessible, and evocative research grounded in personal experience”

-Ellis (2011)

I started to experience this culture and also try to use the delivery apps too. I have downloaded foodpanda and try my very first time on it.

First, we have to do a simple registration, just to write down the name and the place that where you at so they can calculate how much time the resterant need for me. It has clearly shown out the time of each restaurant. It is very user-friendly, although I am a newbie in delivery apps, I know everything about it when I use it.

LOWBBOSS – the discount code of the very first order

I have done some research on why people love to use the apps, most of the people said “discount code” and no shipping fee. Actually, it is quite attractive, getting a discount is easy, just type the code they need, I can save my $50 and enjoy my lunch, as you can see my receipt, $50 = 4 sushi’s price. It is very cheap!!!!

After the first experience, I use the apps more frequently, I found that it is really convenience for me, since I am a student and also a part-time sales, I don’t have much time to cook or go around to find the food that I want to eat. Especially, at midnight, when I am hungry I really don’t wanna go out and find which restaurant is still opening. But using the apps, I can order the food anytime although it is midnight, and I can know what restaurant is available in just one second.

“this might require comparing and contrasting personal experience against existing research”

-Ronai(1995)

Doing an autoethnography is not only just personal experience, but we also need to know what others experience before. During this research, I will interview people who are South Asians. Through the interview, I want to know more how the interviewees’ feel about the experience of delivery apps and what they expect on the service and the actual feeling. So that I can compare my experience toward them and analyse the difference in two nationalities. It is somehow a meaningful research/project that can make me know more or learn about the culture of Korea, I never know there is such a culture in Korea within these few years and mean so much to the people.

  3. I myself did not like to order through delivery because u know it will cost more but its totally opposite, one of my friend who works in food panda he told me that for the first time you order you will have a $60 dollar discount which is a lot and a lot of time there will be free delivery or you will get a discount too. Also, I use uber eats I receive a lot of discounts from them through email. Next time you want the promo code you can ask me 🙂

  4. I am also a restaurant delivery app. I think it is beneficial and convenient. I didn’t understand why I had to pay more for some food instead of going to a restaurant. But after I tried these restaurant delivery apps, I realized. I am also looking forward to your interview, and I also want to know that they are experiencing.
