Delivery Apps

Food Delivery is a culture in Korea. Of course,  there may have food delivery in any country but why it becomes a culture in Korea? And why using Delivery Apps becomes a culture nowadays?

Basely, Food delivery divides into 3 part in the past.

People make a phone call to the restaurant and make a delivery order, the delivery staff bring the food and arrive as soon as possible. People in Korea love “fast”, it is their lifestyle. People prefer to make a delivery order instead of to dine out, they think it can save their time to do some other things. And the delivery staff are mostly doing their job with a motorcycle since the traffic in Korea is very complicated if anyone wants to go to a place within a short time, the only way is using the motorcycle.

As time goes by, delivery apps become popular in these few years. It is way more convenient then make a phone call. People can choose the restaurant they like in the application, the application even classifies the restaurant genre to make it more user-friendly. People can read through the restaurant menu anytime, it can avoid people want to make an order which without the takeaway menu because it is all online now. People also can pay their meal online, the application will show the time that how long would they need to wait after they make the order, so people can make good use of their time. Using the delivery apps also have extra benefits, the users may have a discount on their meal. For example, for some delivery apps (e.g. foodpanda) the new user enter the discount code, they can have a discount (-$50) for their first order. Beside the first order, the apps may have an extra discount for the old user too.

I am a food lover and also a delivery apps lover. I usually use the apps to order food at night or at midnight. I really love the apps, it can show me all the restaurant that I can choose. Sometimes when I am on the street I don’t even know what kind of restaurant is around me, I can not make sure what food I can eat in the restaurant because not every shop is willing to put a menu outside the restaurant to let people know. So I may miss some good food, but if I use the apps, I can know all the things that I can order, and how long I need to wait for the food. Sometimes I am really hungry and I know I really want to eat noodles but I saw the time they needed is around an hour or even more than an hour to arrive, I will give up and choose something need less time. In the other situation, I want to eat the food with a very long waiting time and fortunately, I have plenty of time to wait for it, I will order it. So the delivery apps give people choice and we can have better time management.

There are so many different delivery apps, I used to use “deliveroo” and I tried “foodpanda” last week. It is my first time to use foodpanda and I also use to discount code for my very first order. So I can -$50 of my sushi, it is very nice for the first experience when I use the app. I use this kind of apps when I am working, sometimes I want to eat some specific food those are not around my workplace, those delivery apps really help me to solve this problem. What I need to do is using a phone and order, pay and wait at my workplace. I can still do my own job and my manager won’t see me going out for a long time only for food.

I really love this kind of experience and I know this is normal in Korea. People are not just delivering food on the apps, they deliver anything people can imagine. All the stuff that daily use (e.g. clothes, baby food, flower) or even people can order “an event”. People can order “a gym” on the apps, the trainer will bring the equipment and go to the place that people order and provide a gym training class. It is very amazing to know about that, and how people make good use of the delivery apps.

Somehow, I hope Hong Kong also has the delivery apps beside food so that I can make my life way easier.

  1. What an interesting topic! Korean food delivery apps are so convenient for those people who do not want to go out and buy food but still wants to grab some food to eat!( exactly who I am), and also they can deal the meal with a cheap price!I remembered that I’ve watched a youtube video which is talking about Korean food delivery app that was produced by a Hong Kong KOL who live in Korea, through her video, I think it is super convenient as Korea are cold as all the time. However, Hong Kong’s food delivery apps are so limited with an expensive price which I rather buy food by myself!

  2. what a fascinating topic you got here! I feel like Korean culture is definitely making a huge impact here in Hong Kong, where people will literally dressed according to the latest Korean streetwear, listens to Kpop, K drama, and last but not least order lot of Korean food. I personally have many Korean friends, and they usually eat at a pretty fast paced i think it is within their culture which brings me to your topic of Korean delivery apps. Korean food delivery apps are perfect for anyone that are busy or just simply wants to order in and call it a cozy night. I like how there are different options to choose from whether it is the food or the delivery apps, not to mentioned who would skip out on those discounts right? One click of a button and your food will be here in no time.

  4. It is interesting that you mentioned Korea delivery app culture is popular because they like”fast” as their lifestyle, it just like hong kong people’s life rhythm. However, Hong Kong have a great difference between Korea, is the citizen does not like using delivery app, FoodPanda, UberEats in Hong Kong are not commonly using due to high cost of food and also the pay method, Korean used to pay with card everywhere, but Hong Kong like to pay cash more instead . Someday, I hope that the delivery apps in Hong Kong will be more popular and common.

  5. Interesting topic! I found out that delivery apps can actually help me a lot. Sometimes when my friends and I wanted to eat but no time to buy for the food we will use delivery apps. It saves us a lot of time although sometimes delivery time is longer than buying take away from a restaurant, it saves us from going out of the house. We can all continue doing our work at home and food will be on our door the next hour. Sometimes delivery apps like Food Panda or Dilveroo also have discounts and coupons to attract more users and I enjoy ordering food whenever there’s a discount! And yes! Hopefully one day Hong Kong can have more delivery apps like maybe clothing delivery or any kinds of delivery! It will definitely save us more time and also can create more jobs opportunity.

  6. I love your topic that you did deepen it and let us know more something that happening every day in our live! I use delivery apps 3-4 times a week and all the apps you mentioned, I all tried! We might take things for granted easily when we’re used to it and thanks for reminding me these apps are really helpful especially for fast paced cities like HK and Korea. By the way I love that I can look up the promo codes online or recommend my friends to use the app then I can also get a discount on my next purchase. Good for us and cool strategy!

  7. Delivery Apps is very cool, nowadays a lot of people working time too long in Hong Kong, people do not have any time or they don’t want to spend any time to cook in Monday to Friday, when people after work they just want to take a rest. In the same time, Hong Kong small as a ball if you want to have dinner or lunch in rush hours, that is not a good choose because too many people have dinner outside, many restaurant outside have people line up or waiting call number, Delivery Apps will be a new trend in Hong Kong.
